Jessica Jollotta Pisani is a lifelong artist of many a medium; she works predominantly with acrylic paints and inks but has been known to stray into watercolors, pen, pastels, and photography. She draws upon her environment for inspiration.
What’s her process?
“I often start a painting without the vision of an end result. After laying down a foundation of texture, applied intuitively, washes of color start to uncover hints of form that I let guide my next decisions over several sessions. I tend to work slowly, over days or even weeks. When a piece is finished, evidence of moods and emotions can be seen; from soft blending transitions, to sharp lines and vivid contrast.”
When asked what kind of art she makes, she struggles to reply.
“I spent a lot of time wondering last year, and still today, if I’ve developed my style, my process, my focus. I see other artists with cohesive bodies of work, and I don’t feel like I have that. I just show up and whatever happens I roll with it. I’ve been making art as long as I can remember and looking back I can see strong short stories, but not strong chapters that would make a compelling book…. But that won’t stop me from continuing to create.”
